MUDVAYNE:
You either love or hate Mudvayne’s intense demonic sound the first time you hear it, but if you look deeper, you’ll find something more musically and artistically incredible than the obvious metal sound.
The band combines monster riffs with passionate multi-dimensional vocals and intelligent lyrics and concepts, for example, take the contrasting vocal styles of “Nothing to Gein” and “Dig”.
Mudvayne was formed in Peoria, Illinois in 1996, grew from a shared musical vision and began winning over audiences with their intense live shows. They released their first album “Kill I Oughta”, which was self released and limited to 1000 copies in their home town and re-released in late 2001. As they grew as a band, Mudvayne began securing support slots with bands such as Slipknot, and their first proper album, “L.D 50” was released in 2000.
“L.D 50” is a medical term, “Lethal Dosage 50” being the amount of a chemical it takes to kill 50/100 test subjects. The album is intense, with many concepts and influences, a major one being director Stanley Kubrick’s movies, especially 2001:A Space Odyssey, it's metaphors being a big influence on the album. "The overall theme of the album reflects and embodies ideas about the evolution of consciousness, transformation and risks involved in experimenting with things that can change a person’s point of view, internally and externally", according to the band.
Mudvayne toured the UK with One Minute Silence in December 2000, and performed at the 2001 Ozzfest, securing the beginnings of a strong UK fanbase. They've yet to headline their own tour in England, after cancelling in March of 2001.
Mudvayne are not for the faint-hearted, they are serious, and the future hopefully holds more of the successful formula of multi-layered heavy metal music.
Those who care to look beyond the colourful facade and the shallow comparisons to Slipknot (mostly due to the masks the band wore in their early years) will find something unique, challenging, intelligent, unsettling and truly dark.
2.)Wheatus Biography: Long Island, NY, singer/guitarist/songwriter Brendan B. Brown put together the quartet Wheatus as a vehicle for his witty, energetic rock songs, beginning with his brother, Peter Brown, on drums and adding multi-instrumentalist Phil A. Jimenez and bassist Rich Leigey (replaced in July 2000 by Mike McCabe). The group recorded their self-titled debut album in the Brown home, producing it themselves, and it was released by Columbia Records in August 2000; the album was preceded by the single "Teenage Dirtbag," which was featured in the film Loser. The week of the album's release, Wheatus embarked on their first national tour with labelmates Zebrahead. .. Tunes, primarily. "Wheatus is about crafting pop-rock songs with punk/street credibility," says Rich Leigey, the bassist. "Period." Balls-out, straight-on, pissed-off and charged up. Piercingly direct smarts spewed with skewed humor. A raw and rowdy approach that doesn't sacrifice top-notch musicianship. You hear it all on the scratch-inflected first single "Teenage Dirtbag," the crunchiest crush song ever composed. And on "Love Is A Mutt From Hell," a sonic sling-shot strike at dysfunctional romance. And in the coolly acoustic rap-folk of "Wannabe Gangsta
3.)Rivermaya Biography: Never quite edgy enough to be considered alternative, yet too influenced by '80s new wave to be called pop, the Philippines' RiverMaya have been swimming between the waters of mass appeal and cutting-edge credibility since the early '90s. RiverMaya was actually created by the band's manager, Lizza Nakpil, in 1993. Nakpil wanted to construct a rock group and after auditioning numerous musicians and undergoing lineup changes, RiverMaya was formed with Bamboo Manalac (vocals), Perf de Castro (guitar), Nathan Azarcon (bass), Rico Blanco (keyboards), and Mark Escueta (drums). In 1994, the band released their self-titled debut album on BMG Records Pilipinas. Caught in the midst of a modern rock revolution in the Philippines, the LP went gold in a few months; it was eventually certified triple platinum. However, Castro then departed from the group to start his own band, Triaxis. With Castro gone, Blanco became the lead guitarist. In 1996, RiverMaya's second album, Trip, hit the shelves; it toppled its predecessor in sales, going quadruple platinum and receiving critical acclaim. A year later, the group's third effort, Atomic Bomb, continued their massive success. Manalac left RiverMaya in 1998, deciding to stay in America after a U.S. tour. Consequently, the band re-recorded their fourth album, 1999's It's Not Easy Being Green with Blanco singing. Although It's Not Easy Being Green sold well, it wasn't as popular as their previous hits; nevertheless, the group's rougher sound gained them more respect. In 2000, RiverMaya released Free through the Internet; true to its name, it didn't cost their fans a cent to obtain. Rivermaya is a Filipino pop/rock band formed in 1993. Having won the Favorite Artist Philippines award at the MTV Asia Awards in 2005, they received their second award of the same title at the 2006 awards night held at Bangkok, Thailand. They also won in the 1st MYX Music Awards (Philippines) held last June 6. They won awards for the Favorite Music Video and Favorite Media Soundtrack categories with the song You'll Be Safe Here
