I wonder how many of you like psychology? Do we have people with psychology background in our group?

I am very interested in psychology, especially recenly. I recently had to acknowledge one thing about myself which was quite hard. I think than knowing yourself is a great first step towards self improvement and eventually becoming better.

What are your thoughts?

I don't know a great deal on the subject but it has always interested me. Anything that encourages/enables us to a greater understanding of others and hopefully ourselves has to be a good thing.
I also imagine it's one of those subjects you could study out of genuine interest rather than just as a career goal.

thats what I am doing now, Phil - studying it of genuine interest. Additional reason for me is that I want to understand my close person better and I really think she needs my help in some respect. I am now reading a book on family psychology and i just cant put it off. It is so fascinating!
If you can, find and read a book by Eric Berne called Games People Play. It is really awesome and will make you understand lots of things in human behaviour.

i like psychology too.. i hv learned sum since ma bachelor degree.. but it quite long time ago.. some gone & sum still in ma head.. the only name that i can remember is sigmund freud hehe..
but one thing i learned from it.. is.. not to judge ppl from their behavier or wat they do ..
i used to wonder y ppl do this n that!!?? ..
but psychology let me know that ppl's behavier come from many reasons sum from context around them like da way their parents teach or grow them when they was young.. sum from their past experience they got then they learn 2 do that 2 protect themself ..
it's like da ppl who commit the crime may b they were da victims of da crime when they was young smthin like that.
hahah it's hard 2 say in eng. sorry if i make u confused lol .. that's all :P

i am Mark! *surprised i didnt see this tipic b4* im workin with people so - gotta now few tricks eh :) yea that's quite amazin...specially people's ability to self-program sth...meanin that we all can "program" ourselves to wether a success or failure...there been a case...few teachers were chosen to conduct classes for a group of students. Both teachers n students were said that they are unique and that there been a special contest to choose them. and after the year the students showed the best results in all exams as if they all were genius...and all why? cuz their teachers were treatin them as those. And lateron teachers were very surprised when they been told that those were jus ordinary students that were chosen jus like that *snap point* :) and they asssumed that they were so special teachers since they performed such task...and then they been told that they were chosen same way :) same idea works on health...people havin same desease n needin operation were devided n some had the operation done n some were jus TOLD that they had - both groups went healthy :)

I love all related with listen people, trying to undertand their pain, and trying to find the proper words to help them. In conclusion I think I like psychology ;)

Another famous character I think is quite interesting is Sigmund Freud and his great interpretation of dreams.
Understanding the dreams of people we are able to know almost everything about that people.

If I am not wrong Constança is psychlogyst so she is the proper one to talk about this issue.

Regards to all of you

Xavi

Psychology fascinates me, especially animal psychology since it's so very different from human psychology.

Unfortunately, being an Animal Biology student, I have little to no knowledge in human psychology.
I just find every subject fascinating really. :-D

Animal pyschology is also something really interesting.

We have a great example with the dolphins. They emit waves that works like an Echo.
If somebody with mental problems dive in water with dolphins, that fantastic mamals start to increase the frequence of their waves, as they could know that their waves are something good to help that people retarded or with mental problems like autistics.
That dolphin's waves make the human brain to give an answer, is like a stimulus.

Now here the great question for everybody...
Why dolphins increase the frequence of their waves when people with brain problems dive in with them??????

That really fascinate me indeed.

:)

That is very fascinating! I'd like to know the answer to that as well.

Is it possible that people with these disorders are sending out brain waves silimar to the dolphins and that is why the dolphins are attracted to them?

Or perhaps some dolphins suffer from similiar disorders and the healthier dolphins help them by increasing their brain waves but can't tell if the brain waves are coming from dolphins or people with disorders because they are similar?

Yeaaa dawn that really fascinates me so much. Your point of view is clever. Maybe human's brain produce a kind of pheromonas or a kind of specific waves that we cannot notice, coz we don't have a developed sixth sense. But some kind of animals have a great developed sixth sense, for example our nice dolphins. Maybe they alredy have some feature, some skill to know that people who dive in water with them have some problem in their brains. And dolphins who are really kind and generous just help them with their healthy waves.

Take care and have a nice weekend :)

Yes, I've heard about that.

Also, not necessarily related to psychology per se, but it has been shown that going to a butterfly conservatory calms people down. I find this amazing because they're insects, you can't stroke them or pet them because you may kill them, but just having the presence of a butterfly acts as a de-stresser. :-D

Dolphins as well as horses and many other animals have brain waves and energies that help heal the handicapped

With horses is called Hypotherapy and in cases of autistic children when riding several times with specialized horses, the children begin talking.

Just another thought of why we should respect species other than ourselves

Oh, oh, on the subject of horses:

Apparently, riding a horse bareback helps people with muscle problems or people who need physiotherapy due to accidents or genetics and such.
It's got something to do with the muscle movement of the horse will encourage muscle movement or better muscle coordination in the human because they have to be in sync with the horse's movement otherwise, they will fall off the horse. I think that was the explanation.

But yes, very fascinating.

Hi guys! I do have a degree in psychology but, infortunely, I'm not working as a psychologist now days because of my country economical -and jobs- crises. But I do love all social sciences in general because I love people. I also love animals but humans are, in my opinion, the most amazing of all species.

Mark, you are right, becaming in knowledge of ower inter-demon its the essential first step to loose our fear of him. But to someone to be helped its essential to WANT to seek (look for) help. Psychologist and psychiatrists can only help the person in the process of help themselfs.

Family Psychology was the most interesting subject I had in college. Whithout a doubt, it makes sense. Family is our fist emotional and behavior model. It determines the way we feel things, people and situations in our adult life. The way we build our inside word. To understand someone we need to understand his/her childwood.

I'm happy you all feel such a interest in psychology, but it's not a surprise because you are sensitive people.

Sorry about my english, it's getting worst. I need to practice more here ;)

A big hug to all, and if someone wants to talk private about this subject, just send me a private message with the msn e-mail adress.

Big HUG to all

I am now holding a book You and Your Family by Virginia Satir, so I couldnt agree more about family psychology. It is really intresting what we can learn about ourselves if we look into our childhood!

Well Chuck, thanks but it's not true! lol But my portuguese it's quit good (I hope!)

It's very sad when we "kill" our inter-child... The children we were, with his dreams, faith and hope must keep alive inside our hearts! We love the world through her eyes.

Hi Chuck, I can say that music does influence us tremendously Not only it brings back of vivid memories but also changes our moods. One must play sweet music to calm down and merry music to bring us up.
Color have more or less the same effect.
