I don't know what his name is..but he seems a great public speaker . I really enjoyed this video.
In my country, the system of education must change. The system concentrates on how much we memorize not how much we understand. In order to change we must hav a plan, a new clear plan and that's what we don't have.

well gus i think was on to it their ,,,i think
1, we should be taught how to learn ,not how much,
every thing we have today whether its information or technology,it is new, and will keep changing,,
and the speed in which we learn new thing will determine our wealth,,so learn how to learn,,
2.teachers should be paid on performance only,,this will create inspiration in the teacher`s,,if you have kids that like the new teacher thats fresh out,,they will absorb more from them,,if its an old teacher thats just putting in the days they will not,,now some old teachers are still good and enthusiastic,,but performance teachers is the best , you would agree,,and if a teacher is getting higher grades in pupils,,that teacher could be paid by other teachers to teach them to teach better,,this is teaching at its best,,
pay on a performance basses

his name is sir kin robinson ;-))

You are right. we read lots of books but we don't memorize the information. we just know where and how to find it . This is what should matter .
I love this:"learn how to learn".
As for the teachers....they already get paid low salary so we don't want to worsen their situation.
I like the idea of a teacher teaching other teachers to deliver the lesson better in class.

I think most education should be done at home. Our schools are obsolete! Our system of education is obsolete! We've so much technologies in most homes to make learning so much easier. The primary educator shouldn't be teachers, but the parents until the kids can direct themselves.

Online courses! If you need flesh and blood, go to community centers. Society is centered on the automobile, and the auto is killing society. We can restructure how we live, but we don't want to. So I wait for fuel prices to keep rising and home values to keep falling. We will be forced to change!

what we need is more technology ,,green fuel were going to have to move around,,i know that you mean in the short term,,
cars run on hydrogen is a good start,,
i really do believe that kids need interaction to help with their creativeness,,might be wrong,,but its only what i feel,,
i know i like to meet the people,,also i like the comfort of doing it on line,,whoops sounds funny that lol,,,but thinking from a child they need to associate also,,,

I never liked schools too much. I'd rather meet in a community center than a school. And I'd rather be self-directed. I don't like being treated as cattle like our schools treat us.
We already have plenty of technologies! We need to make wiser use of available technologies.

THATS A VERY VALID POINT,,THEIR IS A LOT WE CAN DO WITH WHAT WE HAVE,,SCHOOL ARE JUST COMMUNITY CENTERS WITH RULES ANYWAY,,BUT WHAT IF THEIR WAS A SHEDUAL FOR A SCHOOL, OK!,,
AND YOU COULD SPEND THE WHOLE DAY IN ONE CLASS SUBJECT IF YOU WISHED,,GOD FORBID WE HAVE AN INTEREST,,,
IT CAN BE YOUR CHOICE,,NOTHING LIKE TELLING A CHILD THAT IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE IN THE SCIENCE CLASS YOU NEED MORE MATHS,,THING IS HE WONT NEED TO BE TOLD,,

Indeed! We have a set mindset about what education is, and that mindset is obsolete! Our schools are factories, obsolete educational factories built for an earlier time.
Change will happen, whether we want change or not. I just hope change is quick.

The unions are widespread in society, particularly in government. I'd say the unions are our biggest obstacle to modernization.

There are good unions, I've heard. Just as there are good politicians. I think what we need is good leadership, the one right person to lead the flocks. Our systems were built for an earlier time, and the leaders seem to resist changing the systems to deal with changed realities of today.

Perhaps there's too much uncertainty today. Perhaps we need a visionary leader who knows what's going on, how we got here, and where we'd like our future to take us.

Oh OK, the TED meetings are very neat. But I think local leadership is needed to change how we do things. National leadership is important, and could benefit by attending TED meetings. Yet I think change happens best when begun at the local level.
Changing the educational system is already done in many homes. There is a growing system of homeschoolers that shows us how education should be. Getting people to be self-sufficient begins in the home.

There are few changes in our educational system here in Saudi Arabia and I'm very happy to see that. In the USA , there is a really good educational system especially in universities. I was lucky I studied one subject (in my college) according to a curriculum of one of the American universities.
Home schooling is good but the environment of school is better, you can see different mentalities and learn to interact with all the students.
Besides schools are good in keeping kids out of trouble, lol

I agree that the school environment is important, but I think such an environment could be created in community centers. I anticipate homeschooling to replace schools as dominant form of education. Our school systems are too costly and too ineffective.
I hope the Saudis are reforming. I hope the Saudis are becoming less reliant on the religion.

I hope Saudis and non-Saudis understand what religions are all about :)
It is not wrong to rely on religion. It is wrong and a fatatl mistake to minunderstand religion. That's what the world is suffering from .
I hated school because there was no interaction with the teacher. I felt my opinion was of less value. That's what I hope is changing. I love to see more discussions in class instead of the typical "teaching" that involves more memorizing than really understanding. Students should be asked to read more and discuss instead of memorizing information that I think useless after the exam.

Knowtain, why do you think your school system is ineffective?

I've seen many reports in the news that say our schools graduate many morons. We spend fortunes and many of our students are morons. I say our schools are very ineffective.
Our colleges aren't the best either. And a big percentage of our college graduates are foreigners. And we have to import many of our highly educated and highly trained workers. I'd say our schools are very ineffective.
As for religion, I think it should be a choice. The government shouldn't tell the people what to believe.

I think it is the students' fault not the educational system. Maybe the students are lazy or something. As for your colleges or universities , I think they are really good (maybe not all but some). In fact I wish I studied in An American university.I would be a genius and I won't find trouble in finding a job here , lol.
I still want to study abroad.I'm trying to convince my mom to let me go to London but she worries much about me.

If it's the students' fault, it is the parents' fault. People need to be responsible for their own education, yet our schools don't send that message.

The idea of revamping the education system is already a "trend" globally. it's 4 am and i have to say something on this:)
i like reflecting on my own experiences, when I was small in 1975 (was that loooong time ago??), my parents who were both teachers put me into ballet class n mind you at that time not many muslim children go for ballet classes in MAL. I did ballet for 6 whole years and after high school, all I wanted to do is dance. whoa, no way was I to be a dancer so when the university application form arrived, I thought, wudnt it be cool if i am a secretary n opted for stenography. But when the offer came, i was to do architecture in the UK (ha!! the system) and they put me into some twinning programme. Then came the offer to do medicine locally and my parents (ha!! the parents) said twas a better option n in the same year I was into another course. But now , i am neither a doctor nor an architect.
My point is,
1.like what Jillian Lin went tru, parents play a very important part in childrens' education/life. Why is it that when anything becomes sour-->blame the education? Not that it is a who's to blame matter but lets educate the parents too.
2.in Mal, we started critical and creative thinking skills (CCTS)integrated into almost all subjects in primary and secondary schools in the early 1990s.When there is a problem of unemployment of graduates, one major reason being said : lack of critical thinking skills??
3. One of the precious time in my life, is teaching in primary schools where i adore the kids and they adore me. Altho there were loads to do, every morning is like bright warm sunshine touching skin on Monday Irish morning (if u get what I mean lol). But that feeling is no longer there as I now teach tertiary level. Just imagine, end of every year, i am being assessed 20% for teaching and 50% on research, am i being transformed into the "professors" like the ones mentioned in video?
Yes, should manipulate on the richness of human capacity where not only creativity of children shud been tapped on but link the affective part as well.
do what we do best, best that we can
only God knows

sometimes mistakes can more helpfull then actual well ordered purposefull direction in life job wise...i too spent time going different roads until i settled down to art..these different roads has helped me be more "varied" in my vision as an artist...please go easy on your elders and system...if you look at your past stepping stones..reexamine the benefits of the situations on these stepping stones you feel have robbed you of your completed vocation...your mind may not be as beautifully varied without these changes you describe in your career..i wish you well in your future....gus.

Well ,more leniency and more advance teaching ,not much on religion.concentrate on most individual progress special
