I think that Immigration is fine, but people need to follow the laws. I totaly disagree with granting amnesty to the 12 million illigal immigrants because there is that many and more patiently waiting for citizenship that aren''t getting amnesty. It's not fair to the people that follow the laws. Immigration to me is fine and welcome. Our country is built on immigration, I just want people to follow the laws just like everyone else had/or is having too.

I totally agree with you. Our country is built on immigration. And I believe in legal immigration. It upsets me that we have millions of illegals who seem to be being granted more rights than we American citizens have. And it upsets me that we are almost being forced to accept Spanish
as the main language of our country. My relatives came to this country and learned it's language & traditions and became a part of this country - proudly. They didn't expect the country to change for them; they changed for it...

Same here. My family had to learn English, and when I'm in another country they would expect me to learn their language, and they should. And I don't understand why people feel the need to grant amnesty when that's breaking our own laws. And I'm tired of the unfairness to other immigrant who aren't granted all that.

I know what you mean. That's like the people who are pushing for the pledge of allegiance to be said in Spanish. No - we speak English here.
I have a friend who moved here from Germany when she was in her early 20's. She spoke no English, but she learned. She supported herself and didn't go on welfare. And she studied her heart out and became an American citizen after passing the test when she was around 40. She loves this country and appreciates what advantages living here has given her. If things are handed to people on a silver platter; it means nothing to them.

oh gosh, they want to say the pledge in Spanish? That's so dumb. I can't belive that, while we're at it maybe we should say it in all the languages of the world. I mean, people need to understand that English is the language. We cant change for them, and if we were their I wouldn't expect them to change for us. And people comming from countries like Germany like you said, learn English. And people from all over Asia, and etc... so Spanish speaking people's should be able to.

Yep, they want the pledge & national anthem done in spanish
along with the English. If they think that's patriotic to the country, it's not. Learning the country's pledge & anthem in English is patriotic. And then there are all of the signs everywhere written in English & spanish. That's crazy! Like you said, they might as well do it in every language if they want to be PC. If I came over here from say France or Germany and didn't speak English (or spanish), maybe a good lawyer could help me sue the government of the U.S. for discriminating against me. (& my language / country) Gimme a break... The bad thing is they'd probably win...

I think that a total disaster is not far away concerning the immagration issue. I agree with you both, I just hope that we can get a president and some representatives that feel the same as we do. If the ones in office have their way they would do away with the border and the US and Mexico will be just a bigger country, and we will then be a thrird world country.

I agree. Immigration is becoming a bigger & bigger political hot seat. I'm all for immigration; that's what our country is built upon. But LEGAL immigration. I know that many of the illegals are decent people, but we are also getting more and more gang members & criminals sneaking over. We can't risk that and keep our citizens safe. Something needs to be done, and quickly...

Yep, just about a year ago I was in the DPS with a friend getting his driver's liscense, and the hiway patrol brought in a mexican, he had a fake liscense, and stolen social security number, and all they did was take them from him and told him not to do it again, and let him walk out the door. When he walked out the door the patrol men threw the documents in the trash, did not notify anyone at all, and had a laugh about it. This in Texas.

That is the problem with our law enforcement & government agencies... That do nothing policy. You can bet that withing a day or two the guy had a new set of fake and/or stolen credentials.
Someone told me that when a Mexican applies for a job at a company & gives a social security number that comes back bad, he will just give a different one until one works...

Nobody wants to enforce the laws we have, nobody wants to be the "bad guy". I have loads of Mexican friends, but believe it or not their parents did not let them learn Spanish, because they wanted them to speak the languge that would get them somewhere, they are cutting their own throats not learning english, in every country they learn english, in Germany they have to take 13 years of english in school... MORE than we do here.

I think part of the problem is the people are so afraid of being "politically correct" nowadays that they don't consider doing what they are supposed to do for fear of being the ones who suffer the consequences instead of the person in the wrong... Look at the border guards who are now sitting in jail for doing their jobs... There are many examples of real "bad guys" getting away with things while the authorities are on the losing end, just because some lawyer plays a race card or some other such B.S. I admit there are circumstances where that is a legitimate beef; but the majority are bogus!

Sorry Craig. I didn't even respond to your statement of other countries learning to speak English. A applaud the parents of your Mexican friends. But I would have emphasized learning English while also letting them learn Spanish. A second language is always a useful tool, especially in today's world...

So sorry I have been gone for a while...you are right... I think they are cutting themselves short by not learning the language... they are to have a vote in Farmers Branch, a city close to where I am...here in Texas... English will be the language and they can longer rent to people without proper documentation, that is peaving people off big time.. they say it will pass by a landslide, if you want to know more I am sure all you have to do is search Farmers Branch in Texas, I will let you know how it goes.

If it is anything like it is around here, there are plenty of places for the illegals to get "proper" documentation.

Yeah, let us know what happens over in Farmer's Branch...

I did not realize yesterday was the day they were to march and protest.... here in Dallas they were looking for many thousands to show up and only ended up to be a couple hundred. The police did not let ANY anti-illegal people in the area, they kick them all off the property. They do NOT even have a right to free speech since they are ILLEGAL, but the cops take care of them, the city mayor has NO backbone, she is scared.

That's about par for the course anymore... Things are just spiralling out of control in this country as far as illegals go.

that's ridiculus. They want to be citizens, but they have already started breaking our laws. A good citizen follows laws. I hate how illegal immigrants want rights, it's not fair to all the people that immigrated here legally.

What gets me the the NON willingness for ANYONE in public office to do anything "right" or take the legal stand to support the laws that are NOW in place. No new laws are needed, just support the laws that are here and now is all I ask of them.

I know how you feel. I want people to support our laws, and it seems like nobody is willing to do that. They probabaly feel that if they take any action they will be thought of as being "politically incorrect". Then someone will pull the race card, even though it's nothing to do with race, just following laws.

Our government seems to have a big problem enforcing our laws. They would rather take the easy route and make laws that favor the illegals over the legal citizens.

As for the result of Farmers Branch (city close to Dallas) the vote was 70% of the people voting said landlords can NO longer rent to anyone that is ilegal. Now groups are trying to sue Farmers Branch because "the people spoke"! Even Barbra Boxer said "A small municipality has no right to do something that is the federal goverments job to do.", she hates that someone else is doing what she is getting paid to do! Now Irving and Carrollton (cities close to Dallas) are thinking of doing the same vote to the people.
