by saying goodbye you mean to leave someone whom you attached???? am i right?....Most important thing is to don't hurt the person self respect....make the person mind gradually don't say goodbye suddenly.....give the person indication that you still rate him/her high...

there is no really easy way to say goodbye witout hurting the person who loves you.. whether you take it slow or take it fast, it will still pain that they will feel whatever way you do it... remember that there is really no GOOD in saying GOODBYE..
