The people of Myanmar are once again suffering. As if 46 years of military rule and the devastating riots of last September were not enough for them to bear, now they are suffering from the effects of a vicious cyclone and tidal waves (one at least 12 feet high). An estimated 15,000 people are dead and another 30,000 missing. The country is in ruins.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the people there, but especially my friends. I pray that you and your families are safe and well and I hope to hear from you soon. God bless you all.

I join you in prayers Dawn for our brothers and sisters in Burma. It has been six days since the cyclone hit and outside aid is not getting through. The Burmese government are suspicious of outsiders and have refused help from the outside world. They think the death toll could be as much as 100,000. There are dead bodies strewn everywhere. Ordinary people like us have their businesses smashed , their homes smashed to the ground and with nothing to eat. They are now facing starvation.I pray that their government let in help for them soon.

I've been following the news stories all week, Angel. The death toll continues to rise and there are perhaps 1.5 to 2 million people without food, clean water to drink, shelter or clean clothing. Very little aid has gotten through the border and those trucks that have will still take days to reach the affected areas.

I haven't heard from one of my friends there for a few months. The last time I heard him from him, after the recent riots, the government had banned the internet and had made taking photos illegal. My friend is a good decent family man who loves his wife and son very much. I keep praying that they are okay. What must people who have family there be going through? My prayers are with them too.

How much suffering must the people of Myanmar (Burma) endure?

I expect that it is the same person that we are concerned about. It is causing more pain to the people there I only hope that by the junter refusing aid that they can sleep at night. They are cowards as the voteing on the constertution is to be held any day now of course by there action they are sure to remain in power. If there is a god out there I hope he will open there ears & Eyes and also the UN will take there leaders to count as there action must amount to Murder on a vast scale. So lets all say a pray for them tonight and any action to help them will be sorted out soon.

Yes, have you heard anything recently from Win? It's been a long time since I've heard from him, Michael.

I'm in agreement with you 100%. What the so called government of the country is doing amounts to murder. They SHOULD be held accountable in a world court. I hope they pay for their sins. My main concern at the moment, as always, is the citizens of Myanmar. When I was inviting people to join "What's Your Pleasure?" I saw a few from Myanmar online. There must be some communication open.

They are all in my prayers.

The pictures are just starting to come out over here in the states..its destroyed. Those people need help now. The US had been blocked until the other day to flying in needed aide but I think as of yesterday they started letting us land one plane at a time. The military is confiscating it and not letting us distribute it but at least its there. Lets pray the militia do the right thing by their people.

Hi Kevin. I feel badly because I haven't yet posted a separate topic about China yet. I have been watching with horror since the first quake hit and now an aftershock of nearly 6 hit sometime yesterday or earlier today. I'm working on posting a topic about the tragedy in China. I received some photos in my email and am saving them to my computer as I type this so I can post them in the topic.

On a similiar topic get this....
I am driving into work this morning listening to Liberal radio as i often do just to keep my finger on the pulse and they start talking about China and the earthquake and how tragic it is and I am really getting interested when all of a sudden the one guy says I bet the US can't wait to get involved. The other guy says you better believe it. its perfect for our government to get in undercover and see whats going on in China. the other guy then goes into this tirad about the Government sending aide over seas when it should be here at home. That America could be great but instead is all about the upper 10% and the only reason we give aide is to hide how disgraceful we are as a nation. I just sat there with my mouth open going wow...this is what its come too. Idiots. They dont even realize that much of the aide given is privately funded through people just like me who donate to charitable organizations like the Red cross. I was amazed at the level of ignorance...the even worse part about this is there is a whole following of people who actually hear this crap and believe it. These two chose to run down the good people of the US instead of being truly concerned for the wellbeing of those in China. Its disgusting

I agree it is disgusting but isn't that the problem with foreign aid not being allowed into Myanmar? It's not just that the Myanmar government wants to look like heroes in the eyes of the citizens. It is to keep "prying eyes" away.

As for Americans who talk that way, perhaps they have no charity in their hearts and therefore cannot understand helping others in need, simply for the sake of offering relief from suffering.

I forgot today was a work day for you. We have a holiday day. Next week, I'll be the one hard at work, while you are out on the gulf course, at the beach or at a 4th of July picnic. Smile

I'm not signed in there at the moment but I'll check. Why should you have to clean out your garage on July 4th? I have to work on the basement again. Do you know how many "treasures" you accumulate after 28 years in the same house? It takes so long to go through them because I'm doing it with my daughter and each item has a special memory or a story behind it. It's tough getting rid of some of this stuff but what are we keeping it for???
