Philippines: A Nation of Servants

The Chinese journalist, Chip Tsao, is coming under sharp criticism from Filipinos in the blogosphere and from two female lawmakers and a labor policy center have joined calls in demanding a public apology over a recent article“The War At Home” that made a racial slur against Filipinos in relation to the dispute over the Spratly islands.

Here’s the article:

“The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen on board. We can live with that—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That’s no big problem—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.

But hold on—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: there are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as $3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.

Please check the full article @ www.esoularium.blogspot.com and leave a comment let the whole world know what we feel about this.

Sad but true, the perception of a Filipino today is a striking contrast during the time of Rizal when Filipinos in Europe were referred to as “the glory of the universities”

Chip Tsao should be barred from entering our country forever...not even during his lifetime and that of his descendants.... and that he should not be given a domestic helper from the Phils. Let us see what will happen to his household without a househelp. He's a braggart; as if he is somebody in his country. Tsao, to me, is a nobody.

That stupid dickhead has no right, no brain and no credibility fitting a true journalist….(he call us a nation of servants based on 130, 000 people only??)…but then why should I waste my time commenting there on his blog…can’t stoop down to that level. I can’t see that bacteria trying to grab a big limelight by hitting a good nation, not when u give him a space here. Let him enjoy his five-minute mud-slapping fame. He surely enjoy his dirty payment for that stupid article. That’s cheap!! (Chip Tsao misspelled his name?? lol) Honest labor that doesn’t pay much is wealth enough compared to billions gained from sinful work. May he rot in hell!!

We will always be attacked one way or another, it will hurt if the attacks are true coz we got no defense. So, we really need to improve individually and collectively. I don’t like it when they attack the domestic helpers in HK coz they have too much pressure already, cheap labour pay, family separation, etc... Btw, not majority of OFW are lowly servants. We are holding administrative posts here in KSA, and workers here are recognized not just in clinical setting but also in policy-making. Check also USA, UK, New Zealand and other parts of the world. We came here with professional credentials, not like back-door entrants and former porters in world’s Chinatowns now dressed as businessmen. Most OFWs are educated from the best schools in the Philippines, even the “lowly servants of HK” he referred to could teach their masters LOL!!!

I agree with you, here i am leaving in Singapore for almost 8 yrs. I could see & say that helpers are not only a low class people coz if you ask them their credentials background they are all college graduate & have master degree. So i can say that because the hard life in Philippines they need only to grab the opportunity to improve there life abroad. Being a helper is a hard work, lot of sacrifice in thats the thing they don't know & understand.

This the thing i like, helpers here mostly attending classes from IT , HOSPITALITY & Caregiver... Our sunday student are mostly pinay's , they never stop learning to improve there knowledge & skills...

So, that moron have no rights to throw that words coz he don't know the way of leaving of other filipinos around the world.... He only stick in 1 topic then condemn us all.

So true, sweetie. Its typical for Filipinos to give their best in whatever position/job they can be. Quality of service and competence, and as you said “ …… they never stop learning to improve their knowledge and skills ”, these are only some of the things I’m proud of my kababayans. There will be people like Chip Tsao who will keep on hitting our race and our nation. But we should never stop in defending ourselves and our country in whatever opportunity. Let us educate them from their ignorane.

Objective point of view:

bakit napakabilis nating ma-offend? bakit di natin sila hayaan magbigay ng opinyon nila the same way na nagbibigay tayo ng opinyon natin?

these people don't even deserve a space in our forums/group. the more attention they are given, the more important they feel...
